5 Types of Scarves You Need to Own

Scarves are definitely a must-have in anyone’s wardrobe. They’re not only functional as they keep us warm during chilly weather; they can easily dress up an outfit as well.

Scarves can be worn in different ways, but before you concern yourself with that, it’s important to acquaint yourself with the different types of scarves. These scarves vary in shape, size, and fabric; that’s why not all of them can achieve the same look.

The square

Usually made in small sizes and from silky fabrics, square scarves can be worn as ascots or choker scarves. Many people find square scarves tricky to wear, so if you’re not well versed in wearing this accessory, it’s best to steer clear of this type of scarf. The best way to wear them, though, is to fold them diagonally and tie around your neck.

The rectangle

Rectangular-shaped scarves are typically oblong in shape. This type of scarf is very easy to wear, and it’s probably the most universally appealing among the different scarf types. You can find rectangular scarves in lightweight silky fabrics or heavy wool, and there are so many different ways that you can wear these scarves.

The shawl or wrap scarf

Also known as shawls or Pashminas, wrap scarves are usually made from heavy fabrics and used as an outerpiece during cold weather. They also look perfect when worn during formal events or with coats. Much like the rectangle-shaped scarves, wrap scarves can be worn in various ways. Drape it over your shoulders or just drape one end of the scarf over your shoulders, and you’re good to go.

The infinity scarf

Infinity scarves basically look like large loops, and you can actually make one by tying both ends of a rectangular scarf. An infinity scarf is usually worn by placing it over your neck and then doubling it around. It looks even more stylish when worn with jackets and coats.

The blanket scarf

Blanket scarves look like shawls or the wrap, but they are often larger in size and worn more casually. Wearing this type of scarf is as simple as taking a blanket and wearing it over your shoulder; hence, its name. You can further style it by wearing a belt around the whole scarf.
